WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team posted a dominant second half performance en route to earning a 16-12 victory against Campbell at Busch Turf on Saturday evening.
Although W&M trailed 11-5 at halftime, it outscored the Camels 11-1 during the final 30 minutes to secure the impressive comeback victory.
Tribe Standouts
Belle Martire led W&M with eight points (7g, 1a), eight draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Sabrina Schrader also came up big with a hat trick and four draw controls, while
Kathleen Cozzi and
Sydney Sloan added two goals apiece.
Defensively, goalie
Elsa Rall allowed just one goal in the second half, which included five second half saves, while
Caroline Hertzberg recorded a game-high four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Inside the Numbers
W&M outshot Campbell, 33-28, and registered a .485 shooting percentage.
The Tribe also held edges in ground balls (21-18) and draw controls (15-14), while it committed three fewer turnovers (17-20).
The Opposition
Rasa Welsh led Campbell with five points (2g, 3a), while Sam Bischoff and Julianna Sanchez both added three goals apiece. Sanchez also posted a game-high nine draw controls.
Notes
Saturday's game marked the first ever contest between Campbell and W&M … The Tribe improves to 23-3 all-time against teams currently in the Big South … Martire has totaled 21 points (16g, 5a) and 24 draw controls in the last three contests … She now has 99 goals and needs just one more to become the 21st player in school history to reach the 100-goal mark.
