Zoe Doughty Shines in Scoreless Draw at Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – William & Mary women's soccer played to the scoreless draw with Charleston in both team's Colonial Athletic Association opener on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Doughty was outstanding in goal for the Tribe (0-0-2, 0-0-1 CAA) finishing with a career-high eight saves, including a huge stop in the closing seconds of the second overtime.

With just 20 ticks left in the second extra period, the Cougars (0-5-1, 0-0-1 CAA)) generated perhaps their best scoring chance of the game. After corralling a Tribe clearance attempt, the ball was chipped into the area, setting Olivia Freitas up with a 1-on-1 chance with Doughty. The Tribe goalkeeper dove to her left, pushing the ball wide of the goal.

Charleston outshot W&M, 21-10, on the day, but just 8-5 in attempts on frame.

The Tribe's best scoring came in the 62nd minute. A nice through ball from the right flank gave freshman Ginny Delacruz with quality 1-on-1 chance. Charleston's goalkeeper Meredith Holton came off her line to cut the angle and deny the chance.
