The William & Mary men's swimming team recorded four wins and took 23 of the 28 total possible seconds and thirds on Saturday, but was edged by host Old Dominion, 131-128. W&M wraps up the regular season at 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Monarchs improved to 1-0 on the year.
For the Tribe, senior
Jake Kealy (Wilton, Conn.) won his third race of the past week with his third lifetime-best, winning the 500 free in 4:37.60. That was the fastest time on the team this season, and ranks Kealy second in the CAA. He also picked up a silver medal on the day, coming in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.53. Sophomore
Conor Sokolowsky (Williamsburg, Va.) won the 1,000 free in 10:03.75, and freshman
Gavin Lamoureux (Virginia Beach, Va.) won his first collegiate victory by taking the 200 fly in 1:51.99. Rounding out the wins was the 400 free relay, where the team of
John O'Hara (Fredericksburg, Va.),
Graham Hertweck (Greensboro, N.C.),
Diego Cruzado (Vienna, Va.), and
Kent Codding (Fairfax, Va.) swam 3:04.57 for the win.
Leading the way among the silver medal winners was the sophomore O'Hara, who took second in both the 50 free (21.66) and the 100 free (47.44). His classmate
Kyle Demers (Virginia Beach, Va.) also had a pair of runner-up showings in the breaststroke events, swimming 55.73 in the 100 and 2:04.40 in the 200.
Ian Cobb (Vienna, Va.) was right behind Demers in both events for a team-high pair of bronze medals. Cobb stopped the clock in 57.66 seconds in the 100 breast, and finished in 2:08.56 in the 200 breast.
With the regular season complete, William & Mary now turns its attention to the CAA Championships, which will be held March 29-April 2 at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center.
