NEWARK, DEL.- William & Mary volleyball was upended 3-0 at Delaware Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale.
Lauren Merrill led all players with 11 kills, hitting .320 on the day.
Julia Brown knocked down seven kills and added a pair of blocks in her final collegiate match, and fellow middle,
Sabrina Malcolm had a team-high three blocks in the contest. Freshman
Haley Adams had seven digs in her first career start as a libero and
Bella Easton led the team with a new career-high eight digs.
For the third straight match,
Kaitlyn Ferguson was efficient offensively hitting for a .286 percentage and
Amy Schwem finished her outstanding freshman campaign with 24 assists in the match.
It was an early 5-0 run highlighted by a pair of aces that gave Delaware an early 6-1 lead in the opening set. Merrill had three kills and
Bella Easton had four digs, but it would not be enough as the Blue Hens took a 25-12 set one win.
Set two was a tight affair early as the teams played to an 11-11 tie before Delaware went on a 4-0 run to jump out to an advantage. The Tribe would not be able to slow down a powerful Blue Hens offense that hit .414 in a 25-17 second stanza victory.
In the final frame, the Blue Hens offense would once again click for a .370 hitting percentage as the home team would take a 25-17 victory to clinch the match.
