JMU Rallies Past Men's Soccer in CAA Play

HARRISONBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer jumped out to a 1-0 lead over No. 18-ranked James Madison on Saturday evening. The Dukes (10-2, 4-0 CAA) though scored three times over an 11-minutes stretch in the latter stages of the second half to pull out the victory.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Tribe (3-6, 1-3 CAA) got on the board first early in the second stanza. Sophomore Joe Core played the ball into space for junior Nathan Messer along the left side of the 18 yards out. After a couple of fakes, her served the ball to the back of the six where classmate Alexander Levengood got free and volleyed a shot into the upper left corner of the goal to give W&M a 1-0 in the 57th minute.
 
JMU equalized on a corner kick in the 72nd minute. Rodrigo Robles Grajera served in the kick and it hit off a Tribe defender's head to the back post where Tyler Clegg chested in it.
 
The Dukes were awarded a penalty kick in the 78th minute as W&M was whistled for a handball in the box. Luca Erhardt stutter stepped and then scored just underneath junior Connor Andrews, who dove to the correct side but could not come up with the stop, to put the home team in front for the first time.
 
Ethan Taylor provided the final blow for JMU, scoring on a dipping shot from 20 yards out into the upper right corner of the goal, pushing the margin to 3-1 in the 83rd minute.
