Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary volleyball fell 3-0 to first-place Elon Saturday evening in Kaplan Arena. The loss came despite solid efforts from
Lauren Merrill who finished with a match-high 14 kills and
Julia Brown who had 10 kills on .474 hitting.
An offensive first set saw Elon score 14 kills while the Tribe was able to slam 12 of their own. Merrill set the pace with six kills on 13 attempts, while Anna porter chipped in defensively with four of her eight digs and
Amy Schwem had a pair of aces. However the .357 hitting percentage for the Phoenix would be good enough to give them a 25-20 first set.
In the second stanza, the Tribe could not find an offensive rhythm Merrill added three more kills but the home team produced just eight as a squad in the set. Elon had three blocks and hit .444 as a team providing the Phoenix with enough power for a 25-13 win.
In the final frame the Tribe offense found form for 16 kills on a .324 hitting percentage. Brown had five kills with zero errors, and Merrill added in a pair of kills as well. Brown, Schwem,
Sabrina Malcolm, and
Sydney Taylor each had a block in the frame, but Elon was once again too much in a 25-18 match ending win.
Amy Schwem was solid in her return to the starting lineup with 28 assists over three sets and six digs. The freshman also had a pair of blocks and two aces. Malcolm was a factor in the middle with six digs and a .333 hitting percentage.
Up Next: The Tribe will face Elon again tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. in the regular season home finale. Six Tribe seniors will be honored before the match begins.
