WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary men's swimming hung on late to narrowly defeat UMBC 132-129 Saturday afternoon in Williamsburg. The Tribe were able to build a lead winning nine of the 14 events.
The Green and Gold got off to a hot start as
Micah Lowe,
Cole Younger,
Gavin Lamoureux, and
Graham Hertweck swam 1:33.33 to win the 200 medley relay. Lowe followed up with a first place finish just out touching teammate
Aaron Tingley in the 100 back.
Younger and
John O'Hara would follow with one, two finishes in the 100 breaststroke. Hertweck pulled out the victory, swimming a swift 20.90 in the men's 50 free and followed with a first-place 46.65 in the 100 freestyle.
Lowe increased the Tribe's lead pacing the field with a 1:52.59 time to take the 200 and sweep the backstroke events. Younger would also sweep, claiming first in the 200 breaststroke ahead of teammate
Conor Sokolowsky.
In the 100 fly it was
Noah Fields swimming past the competition to give the Tribe nine more points with a win. After the final break, Younger and Sokolowsky would finish first and second respectively in the individual medley to ensure victory for the Green and Gold.
UP NEXT: Next up the Tribe will head to Wilmington for a CAA Pod next Saturday and Sunday.
