Tribe Upended on Senior Day in Extra Time

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary women's soccer fell 1-0 in overtime to James Madison on Sunday afternoon. The Tribe honored the senior class prior to the game. Ginger Deel scored for the Dukes in the 97th minute.

The Tribe mustered six shots and three corner kicks in the game and Zoe Doughty was one again brilliant in net with five saves.

Doughty came up big in the 24th minute for the Tribe. The keeper found herself one on one with a James Madison attacker but handled the chance skillfully to keep the match level. Jillian O'Toole took a crack from outside the top of the box in the 30th minute that sailed just above the bar in the Tribe's best chance in the opening half.

Doughty stood strong again making a kick save in the opening minute of the second half on a chance inside the six yard box. The keeper would make another save on a shot from outside the box in the 50th minute.

James Madison would have another scoring chance in the 55th minute of action but Doughty was in impeccable position to stop the threat. With just over 15 minutes remaining in regulation Mia Suchora ripped a shot from outside that just passed over the bar for the Tribe's first threat of the second 45. A second scoring chance came with six minutes remaining as Zoe Smith sent a left-footed crack toward the bottom corner, but the keeper was up to the challenge.

In extra time, Amanda Attanasi sent a cross into the box that found Deel in front of the net. Deel rifled a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner to end the match.

Next up: William & Mary will travel to Delaware next Thursday before returning home to host Northeastern in the regular season finale Sunday afternoon.
