Tribe Plays Elon to 0-0 Draw

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- The William & Mary women's soccer team played Elon to a 0-0 draw Thursday night at Martin Family Stadium. The match marked the third straight 0-0 draw for the Tribe.

The Green and Gold outshot the Phoenix 15-11 and were the more dangerous team for the full 110 minutes. For the third straight match, keeper Zoe Doughty did not concede, and the junior has not conceded in regulation in four matches.

Midway through the first half Page Frantz found herself alone outside the box and rifled a left-footed strike toward the top corner of the cage. The Elon keeper, McKenna Dalfonso, was up to the challenge keeping the match scoreless.

A second chance came when Kenna Zier took a chance from the top of the box in the 28th minute, but once again Dalfonso was there to make the save. Caroline Monahan laced a left-footed ball toward the bottom left corner that was once again saved in the 30th minute of play.

Early in the second, Hannah Potter chipped a shot from just inside the box that was out of the keeper's reach but hit off the crossbar to keep the match level. Potter took another rip midway through the half but the shot was stopped.

In the waning moments of regulation, Zier took a crack that deflected off a Phoenix player and then off the post and out of play as the final dangerous moment in the opening 90 minutes.

Elaina Longjohn had a header go just wide of the frame in the opening 10 minutes of overtime but it was the only dangerous chance for either team. In the second 10, Monahan went streaking down the line and rocketed a shot at the goal but a save was made to ensure the draw.

Next up: William & Mary will be back on the pitch this Sunday afternoon hosting James Madison for a 1:00 p.m. start. The game will be Senior Day and the Tribe players will be honored before the match.
