Volleyball Continues Conference Play at JMU

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary volleyball visits Harrisonburg for the final two legs of a four-match road trip this weekend, meeting James Madison for a pair of contests. The Tribe and Dukes will get together Saturday and Sunday for two 3:00 p.m. first serves. 
 
Saturday's match will be broadcast live on Flo Volleyball but there will be no video broadcast for Sunday's tilt. Live stats links are available for both matches on the William & Mary schedule page.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
The Tribe enters this weekend's matches second in the CAA with an 11.55 assist per set average. Amy Schwem has dished out 313 dimes- good for an 8.24 per set clip, fifth in the league. The true freshman had 71 assists in just six sets last weekend. Junior Kate Van Houten has delivered 80 assists this season and sits at 463 in her career. Last season Van Houten had 55 assists in two matches against the Dukes.
 
The Tribe comes into the weekend trailing just Towson and Elon in the league, recording a strong 12.60 kills per set. Brown has paced the Tribe with 3.18 kills per frame and Maddie Meyers has emerged as the team's second most terminal attacker with a 2.83 kills per set clip.  Lauren Merrill has slammed down 2.61 kills per set, but has turned it up during CAA play. The senior is averaging 3.54 kills per frame in conference matches and has failed to reach double-digit kills in just one league contest. 
 
A pair of Tribe attackers set new career high marks last Sunday against Hofstra. Julia Brown recorded 14 kills, hitting .360 against the Pride, setting a new career-high for kills in a three-set match. Lauren Merrill tied her previous high of 13 kills in a three-point set and also hit .360 in the match. 
 
Anna Porter has been the center-piece of the William & Mary back line since arriving on campus in the fall of 2019. The libero ranks seventh in the league this season with a 3.63 dig per set rate and has amassed 605 career digs through one full and a pair of half seasons. Last weekend the Atlanta native snapped a 19 match streak of recording double-digit digs.
 
Julia Brown enters the weekend fifth in total kills under the current scoring format. The middle needs just ten put-aways to tie former teammate Kate Dedrick. Sophomore Maddie Meyers can reach the 100 career-kill mark with 15 kills this weekend. 
 
Anna Porter ranks ninth in the current scoring format with 605 digs and needs 44 digs this weekend to move into eighth in the history books. Ranking 10th in school history in total kills with 531, Lauren Merrill can move into ninth in the record books with a 19 kill weekend. Merrill also needs just five blocks to reach the 100-block career milestone.
 
This season, Brown has continued her high standard of play living up to her preseason All-CAA honors. The middle blocker has 121 kills on the season and ranks third in the CAA with 3.18 per set. Brown also ranks fourth in the league with a .341 hitting percentage. She is second among all Tribe athletes with 333 total blocks under the current scoring format.
