RICHMOND, Va. – Former William & Mary women's basketball assistant coach Tierra Terry was named the head coach at Virginia Union as she was announced at a Thursday morning press conference in Richmond.

"As the new head coach, my goal is to continue creating and fostering a winning mindset on the court and in the classroom," Terry said in her introductory press conference. "I began my coaching career in the CIAA and am excited to be back. Our current team has a great mindset coming into this season. We are going to commit to team above self, hard work, and having fun on this journey."

Terry joined the Tribe staff prior to 2018-19 season and has been an instrumental part of the Tribe's success during her two seasons. The Tribe won 36 games in the course of her time on staff but had arguably the best season in school history last year. Terry was a part of the 2019-20 staff that guided the Tribe to school records in wins (21), CAA wins (12), and road wins (11). W&M secured its highest seed in school history with the third seed in the CAA Tournament, and could have been headed to the postseason with an RPI of 104, the best on record. Terry helped guide three players to six All-CAA awards, including a pair of First-Team All-CAA sections in Bianca Boggs and Eva Hodgson.
 
"We are thrilled for Tierra as she accomplishes her dream of becoming a head college coach," Tribe head coach Ed Swanson said. "I want to thank her for her time and dedication to our program the last two years, and we wish her and the Panthers nothing but the best in the years to come."
