Women's Basketball Sets School Record for Road Wins in Thrilling Triumph at Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Redshirt sophomore Sydney Wagner hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter and sophomore Eva Hodgson recorded her second straight 30-point performance as the William & Mary women's basketball team topped Charleston 80-74 for its school-record ninth road win on Friday afternoon.

Down 66-64, Wagner hit back-to-back 3-pointers around a Charleston free throw to give the Tribe a 70-67 lead with 2:06 to play in regulation. Hodgson and senior Victoria Reynolds then went 10-of-10 down the stretch from the free-throw line to secure the Tribe's win.

With the scored tied, W&M burst out on 13-5 run building its largest lead of the game early in the third quarter. Five straight from Hodgson sparked the rally before Charleston answered. Hodgson restarted the rally with a basket before Reynolds found junior Gabby Rogers to push the lead to seven. After a traditional 3-point play from Charleston's Arynn Eady, Reynolds scored four in a row to make it 50-42 with 6:42 to go in the third.

Charleston used a 7-0 run to tie the score and erase the deficit. Latrice Perkins scored five straight before Arynn Eady had a lay-up to make it 52-52 with 3:20 in the third. Both teams traded buckets down the stretch of the third quarter and ended the period tied at 56.

CofC had an 11-0 run to build its largest lead of the game at 12 points with 3:16 to go in the opening quarter. Eady started the run with a lay-up before Deja Ford hit a lay-up, Perkins hit a jumper, and Deja Ford canned a 3-pointer to push the lead to double-digits. Perkins ended the run with a driving lay-up to make 18-6 Cougars.

W&M bounced right back and closed the gap to four at the end of one with a 10-2 run. Freshman Bre Bellamy and Wagner sandwiched 3-pointers around Hodgson lay-up. After a Cougars basket, Hodgson scored again to make it 20-16 at the end of one.
