Seniors Become Winningest Class in School History with Road Win at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Sophomore Eva Hodgson and redshirt sophomore Sydney Wagner connected on back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the fourth quarter to help lift the William & Mary women's basketball team to a 63-55 victory over UNCW at Trask Coliseum Sunday afternoon. With the win, seniors Victoria Reynolds and Ashley Taylor become the winningest class in school history with their 67th career victory.

Tied at 43-43, Wagner found Hodgson on the left-wing for an open 3-pointer to put the Tribe (16-6, 7-4 CAA) up for good. On the ensuing offensive possession, Reynolds dished to Wagner in the right-corner for three more to make it 49-43 with 6:30 remaining.

UNCW (6-16, 3-8 CAA) brought the game back to a five-point deficit on an Ahyiona Vason bucket, but that is close as it could trim the W&M lead. Hodgson answered with back-to-back baskets to make it 55-46 with just 2:36 left in regulation.

The Tribe used a 7-0 run to build an eight-point cushion late in the third quarter. Wagner sparked the rally with a triple before Hodgson scored and junior Nyla Pollard completed a traditional 3-point play to make it 39-31 with 3:03 to go in the third.

Down 16-14, W&M used an 8-2 run to take a four-point lead late in the first half. Pollard hit a free throw before junior Bailey Eichner gave the Tribe the lead. After a UNCW basket, redshirt Wagner canned a 3-pointer, before Hodgson made it 22-18 with 1:47 to go in the second quarter. UNCW rallied to tie it before Wagner scored a lay-up to give the Tribe the 24-22 lead at the break.
