WILLIAMSBURG, VA- William & Mary (3-6) lost a heartbreaking decision to Wagner Friday night at Plumeri Park as the Seahawks scored three times in the ninth to capture a 5-4 win. Chris Farrell started and tossed 4.1 innings for the Tribe allowing one run on two hits and Jack Cone, Matt McDermott, and Ben Greenspon all had multi-hit games in the loss.
Both starters held the opposition scoreless through three innings, but the Seahawks would open up the scoring plating a run in the top of the fourth inning. However, the Tribe would battle back as Hunter Hart led off the bottom half of the inning with a walk. Hart would move to second on Cole Ragone's infield hit and come in to score as Ben Greenspon roped a single to center. One batter later Jack Cone would plate Ragone with a single up the middle to give the Tribe a 2-1 lead.
In the fifth Rojo Prarie would relieve Chris Farrell with one out and the bases loaded. Prarie would get a strikeout and a groundout to get out of the jam. However, the Seahawks would strike to tie the game in the sixth inning. Matt Howat would relieve Prarie and strike out the side in the seventh.
Jack Cone led off the Tribe's half of the seventh inning with a single. He would move over on a single from Matt McDermott and reach third as Wagner elected to intentionally walk Brandon Raquet. Cone would come home as Hart lifted a sac fly to deep left-center putting the Tribe back on top, 3-2.
After a clean eighth inning from Randy Prosperi, the Tribe would get another run as McDermott laced a single to left-field plating Trehub making it 4-2 W&M. But Wagner would recapture the lead 5-4 via a three-run home run by Griffin Schneider in the top of the ninth. The Tribe would get the tying run to second, but could not capitalize in the ninth.
The Tribe will be back on the field tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch time hosting West Virginia at Plumeri Park.
