Tribe's Three-Game Winning Streak Snapped At UVA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA- William & Mary (3-5) fell to Virginia (6-3) 8-5 Tuesday afternoon in Charlottesville. Matthew Trehub tossed out three hits and Matt McDermott and Brandon Raquet both homered for the Tribe in the losing effort.

The Tribe would strike first as singles from Jack Cone, Matt Thomas, and Brandon Raquet would load the bases in the opening frame. Tyler Solomon would reach on an error that plated both Cone and Thomas to give WM a quick 2-0 advantage.

Virginia would battle scoring one in the first before a nifty 4-6-3 initiated by Matt McDermott neutralized the threat. UVA would jump on the Tribe again scoring three times in the second to take a 4-2 lead.

The Tribe would strike back as Raquet shot his third home run of the season over the wall in right-center with one out in the third. Later in the same inning, Matthew Trehub sent a double to left-center scoring Tyler Solomon and tying the game 4-4. McDermott would give the lead back to the Tribe in the fourth, sending a solo moonshot deep into the left-field bleachers for his second homer of the season.

It would be a short-lived lead for the Tribe as Virginia plated four runs on four hits, including a pair of home runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning. The fifth would be the final time either team crossed home plate as both bullpens settled down and Virginia took an 8-5 win.

Next up, the Tribe will host a trio of teams over the weekend at Plumeri Park as part of the Central Virginia Classic. W&M will face Wagner Friday before hosting West Virginia Saturday and finishing the weekend with a Sunday afternoon date with Georgetown.
