Women's Basketball's Win Streak Comes to End in Overtime Thriller at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA – In a game that felt a lot more like March than the middle of February, the William & Mary women's basketball team dropped an 84-74 overtime decision to first-place Drexel in Philadelphia Friday night.

Drexel's Aubree Brown scored the final three points of regulation, including a lay-in with 7.8 seconds left in regulation to tie the score and force the extra frame. The Dragons (19-8, 12-1 CAA), led by Keishana Washington, who scored 10 points in OT, went on to outscore W&M 16-6 in overtime to pick up the win.

A back-and-forth fourth quarter, saw the Tribe (18-7, 9-5 CAA) take the lead on a corner 3-pointer from senior Victoria Reynolds with 1:07 left. The Tribe extended its lead with two junior Bailey Eichner freebies with 57 seconds left, before Brown helped Drexel to the comeback.

Down six after the first half, Drexel used back-to-back 3-pointers from Bailey Greenberg and Brown to take a 51-50 lead with 2:08 left in the third quarter. The game remained within a possession until Drexel pulled away late with free-throws in overtime.

W&M opened the second quarter with a 14-0 to build its first lead of the game.  Sophomore Eva Hodgson scored the first five points of the spurt, before junior Nyla Pollard scored in transition to force a Drexel timeout. The run continued as junior Gabby Rogers knocked down a jumper to tie it, Pollard added a traditional 3-point play, and Reynolds had a lay-up to make it 25-20 with 6:29 left. The Tribe would go on to outscore the Dragons 14-13 and take a 39-33 lead into the locker room.

Leading by four the Dragons used a quick 5-0 run to take its first of three nine-point first quarter leads. Washington opened the spurt with a 3-pointer and Kate Connolly knocked down a jumper to make it 13-4 with 4:54 to go in the opening stanza. Drexel also led 18-9 and 20-11 at the end of the first frame.
