GREENVILLE, N.C.- William & Mary fell 11-3 in game two of a three-game set to No. 21 ECU on Saturday afternoon in Greenville, N.C. The Tribe falls to 0-2 on the season after the loss.
After an inning and a half of scoreless ball, the Pirates broke the tie in the bottom of the second with a trio of singles. Tribe starter
Justin Pearson got a double play to limit the damage. The Pirates would strike again in the fourth plating five to extend the lead to 6-0.
The Pirates would plate three more in the fifth to make it 9-0. After a pair of scoreless innings from freshman
Matt Howat, ECU would get a two-run homer from Matt James to make it 11-0.
Matt McDermott would reach in the ninth and
Matt Thomas would follow with a walk. Junior transfer
Tyler Solomon would double to plate McDermott for his first RBI in a Tribe uniform.
David Hogarth would pinch hit and slap a single through the left side to plate Thomas and a sac fly from Hart would send Solomon home to make it 11-3. ECU would retire pinch hitter Matt Winters to secure the win.
The Tribe and Pirates will finish the three-game set tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
