Eva Hodgson's Career-High 34 Points Helps Women's Basketball to Eighth Road Win

ELON, N.C. – Sophomore Eva Hodgson scored the seventh-most points in W&M history and the most in the school's DI era as she dropped 34 points to lead the Tribe to an 84-77 victory over Colonial Athletic Association foe Elon at Schar Center Friday night.

Leading by seven, W&M used a 9-2 run in the early part of the fourth quarter to take its largest lead of the game. Hodgson sandwiched four from the free-throw line around two from senior Victoria Reynolds to push the lead to 13. After an Elon bucket, Reynolds hit a lay-up and junior Bailey Eichner split a pair to make it 67-53 with 3:33 left.

Elon (9-11, 4-5 CAA) never quit and pulled within as close as five with five seconds left and six three times late in the game. The Tribe hit on 9-for-12 from the line in the final minute of the contest to preserve its lead.

Trailing by three, W&M (14-6, 5-4 CAA) used a 10-0 run to build a seven-point lead in the first quarter. A pair of Reynolds free throws started the run before a junior Gabby Rogers lay-up gave the Tribe the only lead it needed. Reynolds and Hodgson connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 17-10 with 2:33 left in the first quarter.

Leading by four, the Tribe used a 7-0 spurt to take its largest lead of the first half. Redshirt sophomore Sydney Wagner canned a 3-pointer before Eichner hit a jumper, and junior Nyla Pollard had a layup to make it 33-22 with 2:41 left in the second quarter. The Phoenix scored the final four points of the frame to make the halftime score 33-26.
