Women's Basketball Drops Delaware on Friday Night

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Three Tribe players scored in double-figures, including a game-high 28 from sophomore Eva Hodgson, as the William & Mary women's basketball team picked up a 68-58 victory over CAA foe Delaware on Friday night in Kaplan Arena.
 
Leading 8-6 midway through the first quarter, W&M (13-5, 4-3 CAA) used an 13-2 run to build a 13-point advantage late in the opening stanza. Senior Victoria Reynolds canned a 3-pointer to open the run, before back-to-back Hodgson buckets made it 15-6. The Blue Hens answered, but three straight baskets from junior Gabby Rogers, Reynolds and Hodgson pushed the Tribe lead to 21-8 with 42 seconds left in the frame.
 
Delaware (5-12, 1-5 CAA) trimmed W&M's lead to six, however, the Green and Gold burst out on a 9-0 run to take its largest lead of the game late in the second quarter. Redshirt sophomore Sydney Wagner buried a 3-pointer, before Hodgson, junior Nyla Pollard and Reynolds had lay-ups to bring the lead 35-20 with 2:43 left in half.
 
The Blue Hens opened the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run to cut the Tribe's lead in half. Five straight from 2018-19 CAA Player of the Year Nicole Enabosi put the Blue Hens down 47-42 with 8:45 to play.
 
W&M bounced right back with a quick 6-0 run to all but put the game out of reach. Rogers hit a jumper, before four straight from Hodgson made it 53-42 with 6:48 to go in the game. Delaware was able to bring the Tribe lead down to eight twice in the final moments, but W&M pushed through for a 68-58 win.

Individual Leaders
Three Tribe players scored in double-figures as sophomore Eva Hodgson scored a game-high 28 points. She added two rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. Senior Victoria Reynolds added 17 points, three rebounds, five assists, four steals, and a block, while junior Gabby Rogers added 10 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal. In her first career start, junior Bailey Eichner had two points, eight rebounds, and two steals, while redshirt sophomore Sydney Wagner had seven points, three rebounds, and an assist.
 
Nicole Enabosi and Jasmine Dickey each had 18 points to lead the Blue Hens effort. Enabosi added two rebounds, two assists, and a block, while Dickey just missed a double-double with nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Lizzie Oleary added eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in 21 minutes off of the bench.
 
Inside the Numbers
- W&M shot 45.1% (23-of-51) from the field in the game, including a 6-of-16 from the 3-point line.
- The Tribe was 16-of-20 (80%) from the free throw, line and had 10 more free throws the Blue Hens.
- Delaware did win the rebounding battle, 34-30.
- The Green and Gold outscored Delaware off of turnovers (28-21) and fast breaks (10-8).
 
Notes
Junior Bailey Eichner made her first career start in the contest … She had eight rebounds in a career-high 31 minutes … Sophomore Eva Hodgson scored, at least, 20-points for the fifth time in the last seven games with 28 … It was eighth 20-point game of the season, and ninth of her career … She has been in double-figures in every game this year and 19 dating back to last season, which is the Division I school record, and has been in double-figures in 35 career games … Hodgson set a career-high going 12-of-12 from the free throw line, which ties Karen Thorne '84 (W&M HOF) school record against VCU on Feb. 22, 1982 …. It was the 13th time in school history a player was perfect with at least 10 makes from the line and the first since Jazmen Boone '15 did it at Drexel on Feb. 6, 2015 … The 12 free throws are tied for 11th best in school history and the most since senior Victoria Reynolds had 12 at Richmond earlier this season … Reynolds was in double-figures for the 13th time this season and the 52nd time in her career … She now has 1,060 career points and needs just 12 more to move into 18th all time …  Junior Gabby Rogers was in double-figures fourth time this season and the ninth time in her career … The win snapped a four-game losing streak against Delaware and the first win at Kaplan Arena since 2008 … The Tribe improved to 5-0 this season after a loss in its previous game.
 
What's Ahead
W&M concludes its weekend homestand as it welcomes Drexel to Kaplan Arena on Sunday, Jan. 26. Tip time between the Tribe and the Dragons is set for 2 p.m.
