Milestones Highlight Women's Basketball 85-60 Win Over Charleston

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Victoria Reynolds became the 21st player in school history to score her 1,000th career point and head coach Ed Swanson became just the third coach in William & Mary women's basketball history to win 100 games with the program, as the Tribe cruised to an 85-60 win over Charleston at Kaplan Arena on Sunday.

The Tribe (10-4, 2-2 CAA) never trailed and opened the game on an 8-1 run to take the lead by the same score. Reynolds opened the scoring with a lay-up, but Charleston answered with a free throw. Junior Nyla Pollard ended the run with the last six points on a traditional 3-point play, before burying a right-corner thee to make it 8-1 with 6:25 to go in the opening frame.

W&M used a 7-0 run to end the second quarter and never relinquished a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest. Redshirt sophomore Sydney Wagner opened the run with a personal 5-0 spurt before sophomore Eva Hodgson hit two free throws with eight seconds left in the half to make it 36-24 at the break.

The Cougars (9-6, 2-2 CAA) closed within 13 points late in the third quarter, but the Tribe scored eight of the last 11 points of the period to push its lead to 18. Wagner again sparked the run with back-to-back jumpers. After a Charleston bucket junior Gabby Rogers scored. The Cougars hit a free throw, but Reynolds scored the final two points of the quarter to make it 62-44 after three.

Individual Leaders 

Sophomore Eva Hodgson turned in her first career double-double to lead four Tribe players in double-figures. Hodgson had a game-high 20 points and a career-high 11 dimes to go along with two rebounds, and a steal. Senior Victoria Reynolds had 17 points, including her 1,000th career point, as well as three rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Redshirt sophomore Sydney Wagner added 13 points and a rebound off of the bench, while junior Nyla Pollard had 10 points, two rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Junior Gabby Rogers, redshirt junior Harper Birdsong, and freshman Bre Bellamy all finished with six points.

Taylor Williams scored 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, and had an assist and a steal to lead three Cougars in double-figures. Aryan Eady added 11 points and six rebounds, while Latrice Perkins chipped in 13 points and four boards.


Inside the Numbers 

- W&M shot 58% (29-of-50) from the floor while limiting the Cougars to just 37.7% (20-of-53) shooting.
- The Tribe was 10-of-11 for 90.9% from the floor in the third quarter.
- Charleston held a slight 29-28 advantage in rebounds.
- W&M was 21-of-23 from the free-throw line for 91.3%.
- The Green and Gold had 22 assists on 29 made baskets and outscored the Cougars 23-6 in fast-break points.

Senior Victoria Reynolds became the 21st player in school history to record her 1,000th career point … She is the fifth player under head coach Ed Swanson to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau … Reynolds has now been in double-figures 11 times in the last 13 games and the 50th time in her career … Now with 1,016 points, Reynolds is five points from moving into 20th all-time in school history … Sophomore Eva Hodgson scored 20 points and had her sixth 20-point effort of the season and seventh of her career … She now has been in double-figures 16 times dating back to last year, including all 15 games this season, and has 32 career double-digit efforts … She added a career-high 11 assists for her first-career double-double … It was the most assists for a Tribe player since Jenna Green '18 had 11 helpers against Charleston on Jan. 26, 2018 … It is also tied for the sixth-best in single-game history … Sophomore Sydney Wagner was in double-figures for the fifth time this season and the 11th time of her career … Junior Nyla Pollard rounded out the double-figure scorers and now has three double-figure games this year and seven times in her career … W&M's 58% from the floor was just shy of its season-high and ninth-best of all-time … W&M improved to 15-9 in the series over Charleston, including a 10-6 mark in Williamsburg … Swanson also became the third coach in W&M history to win 100 career games with the Tribe.

What's Ahead 
W&M heads back on the road for the next two games as it has the CAA's Northern road trip next weekend. The Tribe heads to Hofstra on Friday, Jan. 17, before trekking to Northeastern on Sunday, Jan. 19. Tip times are slated for 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
