Men's Soccer Drops CAA Road Tilt at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – William & Mary men's soccer converted a second-half penalty kick to cut the deficit to a goal, but Drexel held on for a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory at Vidas Field on Saturday night.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Dragons broke through with the first goal of the match early in the second half. Yassine Elkahloun broke free along the right side of the box toward the byline. As the Tribe defense converged, he found Amore at the penalty spot and the junior defender scored into the right side of the net.

Freshman goalkeeper Kieran Baskett came up big in the 75th minute denying a Drexel penalty kick. His kick save on Kyle Tucker's chance from the spot kept the deficit at one.

Just over a minute later, the Dragons doubled its lead off a free kick. Chris Donovan flipped a header over the top of the Tribe defense and into the center of the frame from six yards out off the service of Tucker.

W&M answered in the 78th minute thanks to a penalty kick. Sophomore John Eberle earned the opportunity after he was shoved down along the right side of the penalty area. Freshman Alexander Levengood converted the PK for his third goal of the season to cut the margin to 2-1.

The Green and Gold narrowly missed the equalizer in the 86th minute. Freshman Nathan Messer found space along the left flank and sent a cross to the middle of the six, but fellow rookie Diba Nwegbo' header went just high of the crossbar.
