Women's Soccer Falls to No. 4 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The William & Mary women's soccer team fell to No. 4 Virginia 8-1 on Thursday night at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville.

Virginia's (7-0-0) Rebecca Jarrett netted a pair of goals just two minutes apart to give the Cavaliers an early lead. Jarrett slotted home a feed from Taryn Torres in the fifth minute, before she scored on a pass from Alexa Spaanstra in the seventh.

W&M (2-4-1) answered just two minutes after Jarrett's pair. Sophomore Renee Kohler found some space and rocketed her shot into the back of the net to get the Tribe back within a goal.

However, the Cavaliers scored six unanswered goals to secure the win. Claire Constant, Meghan McCool, Taryn Torres (PK), Ashlyn Specca (twice) and Sydney Zandi got on the scoreboard for UVA.

Quotable
"We lost to an extremely strong team, clearly one of the best college soccer teams I have seen. We have to regroup for an important game Sunday. Renee had a great goal and it was only the second goal UVA had surrendered this season." - Head coach Julie Shackford

What's Ahead
W&M closes its weekend as it travels to Hampton Roads and former conference rival Old Dominion on Sunday, Sept. 15. Kickoff between the Tribe and the Monarchs is set for 6 p.m.
