EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern scored a pair goals in a six-minute stretch and it was enough to survive a last-minute goal by the William & Mary women's soccer in a 2-1 victory on the Wildcats' home turf on Sunday afternoon in Evanston, Ill.
After a scoreless first half, Northwestern (1-2-1) jumped on the board in the 48th minute. Danika Austin started the play as she slotted a pass-through to Julietta Thron. Thron was able to make one more pass to Mikayla Hampton, who converted her chance to put the Wildcats up right after the start of the second half.
Just six minutes later, the Wildcats doubled their lead off of a free-kick. Madi Kennel lined up the chance and sent the ball into the area where Aurea Martin was able to deflect the ball into the back of the net.
The Tribe (1-3) didn't go quietly into the night and scored a goal with 36 seconds left in regulation to spoil the shutout. Junior
Page Frantz found her classmate
Courtney Miles, who was able to notch her first goal of the season and make the final count 2-1.
