TOWSON, Md. – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at Towson, 22-12, on Sunday afternoon.
After trailing by as many as seven early in the second half, W&M (6-7, 1-3) rattled off three unanswered goals to narrow the margin to 14-10 with 12:40 remaining.
However, Towson (4-9, 2-1) closed the contest with an 8-2 run to secure the conference victory.
Tribe Standouts
Freshmen
Belle Martire and
Lauren Russell led W&M with three goals apiece, while junior
Meredith Hughes (2g, 2a) and senior
Maddie Torgerson (2g, 1a) also came up big offensively. Senior
Eloise Gagnon also found the back of the cage twice.
Freshman
Starr Howard posted another outstanding performance on the draw circle and totaled seven draw controls, six of which came during the first half.
Inside the Numbers
Although W&M posted a .545 shooting percentage, it was outshot 37-22.
Additionally, the Tigers held a 18-17 edge in draw controls and owned a 20-13 advantage in ground balls.
The Opposition
Kaitlin Thornton (5g) and Natalie Sulmonte (4g, 1a) led the Tigers with five points apiece, while Shelby Stack added four points (3g, 1a).
Kerri Thornton totaled two points (1g, 1a) with a team-high five draw controls.
Notes
Howard's seven draw controls build upon her W&M single-season record (74) and marks the fifth time this season she has totaled at least seven draw controls … Martire has recorded a hat trick in three of the last four games.
