Baseball Takes Series Finale against Northeastern

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary baseball team captured its first Colonial Athletic Association win in convincing fashion following a 15-4 victory over Northeastern on Sunday afternoon. The Tribe (15-6, 1-2) scored its second-most runs of the season to top the Huskies (12-11, 2-1).

The scoring began in the bottom of the first on senior Hunter Smith's sixth home run of the year.  The Huskies answered with a run in the next frame, but a 5-2-3 double play helped freshman Zach Tsakounis escape a nobody out, bases-loaded jam.

NU took the lead on a two-run, three-hit third inning. However, four walks in the next frame helped the Tribe answer back with four runs to reclaim the lead. The Tribe added two insurance runs in the fifth and seven more in the sixth to essentially put the game away.

Senior Nick Butts (1-0) picked up the win for the Tribe, going 4.0 innings, giving up two hits, no runs, and striking out four.  Kyle Murphy (2-2) took the loss for the Huskies.

Tribe Standouts
In a 14 hit offensive explosion, four Tribe batters recorded multi-hit days – junior Matthew Trehub, freshman Hunter Hart, and seniors Zach Pearson and Hunter Smith.  Smith recorded his third multi-home run game of the year, bringing his season total to seven.

Trehub reached base on four of five at-bats, recording four RBI and scoring twice. Hart finished the afternoon with three RBI. Freshman Jack Cone slashed an RBI single through the right side in the sixth, while junior Brandon Raquet dropped a two-RBI double in left field in the same frame.

Notes
