WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 1, 2019)— The 15th-ranked William & Mary men's gymnastics team posted its second-best score of the season but fell to No. 8 Navy, 400.0-392.55, at Kaplan Arena on Friday evening.
W&M recorded season highs on floor (67.75) and parallel bars (65.8) en route to defeating the Mids in both events but was unable to overcome unfavorable margins in the other four events.
Cutter Fugett and
Andrew Lyubovsky highlighted the Tribe's individual performances by winning titles on floor (14.2) and parallel bars (13.65), respectively, while
Nate Winneg posted the dual meet's top all-around score (73.95)
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
Floor, 67.75 – Cutter's winning effort of 14.2, which equaled a career high and ranks ninth in the program's record book, led the Tribe on floor, while
Collin Lillie's career-best 13.9 also helped the squad earn its best score of the season in the event.
Pommel Horse, 62.3 –
Spencer Schrandt posted W&M's top score on pommel horse and placed third with a 13.75.
Rings, 64.55 –
Jacopo Gliozzi (13.65) and
David Watkins (13.6) placed second and third, respectively, on rings, while
Peter Makey tallied a season-high 13.55.
Vault, 69.4 –
Jack Hasenkopf placed second on vault with a 14.2, while Lillie earned a 14.05 to finish just outside the top three.
Parallel Bars, 65.8 – Lyubovsky led W&M on parallel bars with a winning mark of 13.65, while Fugett (13.15),
Ian Creelman (13.05) and Schrandt (13.05) all contributed to the team's season-high score in the event.
High Bar, 62.75 – Lyubovsky was the Tribe's top scorer on high bar with a 13.05, while
David Allen earned a 12.95.
