WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Feb. 2, 2019) – The William & Mary men's gymnastics team defeated Temple, 388.5-342.65, to win the State Open hosted by Williamsburg Gymnastics on Saturday evening.
En route to securing the victory, W&M swept all six events and posted a season high on floor (65.7).
Sophomore
Cutter Fugett led the Tribe's individual performances by winning titles on floor and parallel bars, while W&M gymnasts also earned the top scores in the other four events.
Event Highlights
Floor, 65.7 – Led by Fugett's winning score on floor (14.1, season high), W&M posted its best team total of the year in the event. Sophomore
Ian Creelman also came up big and placed third with a career-high 13.35.
Pommel Horse, 63.6 – Gliozzi claimed the pommel horse title with a 13.8, while sophomore
Spencer Schrandt (13.1) and freshman
Christian Gulotta (12.6) rounded out the top three.
Rings, 65.1 – Senior
David Watkins won the rings title for the third consecutive week and posted a 13.85. Junior
Nate Winneg equaled a season high (13.3) to place second, while Gliozzi finished third with a 12.85.
Vault, 67.85 – Senior
Jack Hasenkopf posted the meet's top score on vault and matched his season high with a 14.0. Freshmen
Andrew Lyubovsky (13.9) and
Reid Ross (13.4) placed second and third, respectively.
Parallel Bars, 65.0 – Fugett equaled his career high on parallel bars (13.25) en route to winning the event, while Lyubovsky (13.1) and Creelman (13.05, career high) were close behind.
High Bar, 61.25 – Creelman and senior
David Allen tied for top honors on high bar with a pair of 12.5's. The score represents a career-high for Creelman. Winneg also garnered a top-three finish with a season-best 12.2.
