WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary dropped their final home match of the 2019 season 3-1 to UNCW Sunday afternoon in Kaplan Arena.
Autumn Brenner did not disappoint dishing out 42 assists and recording seven digs in her final home match. The loss means a season split with UNCW as the Tribe got the best of the Seahawks 3-2 in Wilmington in early October. The Tribe will play three road matches to close out the 2019 campaign.
How It Happened
The Tribe got off to slow start hitting just .034 in the opening set.
Julia Brown filled up the stat sheet with a kill, an assist, a dig, and three blocks.
Kate Dedrick and
Anne Louise Seekford would both slam a pair of kills, but it would not be enough as the Seahawks cruised to a 25-17 first set win.
The Green and Gold found a rhythm in the second set behind 12 assists from
Autumn Brenner.
Julia Brown terminated four balls and added an ace while
Kaitlyn Ferguson slammed three kills and a pair of blocks.
Anna Porter anchored the back row with four of the Tribe's 16 digs as William & Mary limited UNCW to a .000 hitting percentage. The 25-16 win by W&M was dominant as they never trailed in the game.
The third frame was tight as the teams tied five times and the lead switched twice.
Kate Dedrick came alive for the Tribe with five of the Green and Gold's 10 kills in the set. Ferguson added two more blocks while Brown and
Lauren Merrill each put home a pair of kills. However, it would not be enough as UNCW sided out at 70 percent to take a 25-20 win.
The Seahawks took an early lead in the final frame, but the Tribe would answer in the day's closest set.
Autumn Brenner finished the match with an incredible 20 assist performance in the final frame and
Kate Dedrick threw down an impressive seven kills. Brown added four kills of her own and Porter dug five attacks, but the Tribe would come up just short in a 25-23 decision.
Inside the Numbers
For the third straight match,
Julia Brown finished with at least 10 kills and over a .500 hitting percentage. The junior tossed down 11 kills hitting .526 in Sunday's loss.
Kate Dedrick led the Tribe with 16 kills. It is the fifth time this season that Dedrick has had at least 15 terminations in a match. With 42 assists, Brenner has had at least 40 dishes in consecutive matches and three of the last five contests.
Kaitlyn Ferguson led the Tribe with five blocks marking the fifth time this season the true freshman has had at least five blocks in a match.

The Tribe will hit the road for the final three matches of the regular season. The Green and Gold will visit Delaware on Friday before making the trip to James Madison on Sunday afternoon.
