Box Score NEWARK, DEL.- William & Mary fell 3-0 to Delaware on Friday night in Newark. The Tribe and Blue Hens split the season series after W&M took the match in Williamsburg by the same score.
How It Happened
Then Hens shot out to a 9-1 lead early in the first frame, Delaware would open up a 16-5 lead before the Tribe responded with a Dedrick kill and a block from Brown. Delaware would use the early lead to take a 25-14 win behind a .406 hitting percentage.
Once again, Delaware would hop out to an early lead in the second set, 5-1. After Delaware opened up a nine-point lead, the Tribe would go on a 3-0 run to cut the margin to six. A late push by the Tribe, but the Blue Hens would take a 25-14 win.
A 3-0 Blue Hen run gave Delaware an 8-3 lead early in the third set. An ace would spot the Hens a 13-5 advantage to prompt a W&M timeout. A block from Kaitlyn Ferguson would cut a large Delaware lead to 18-9, but it would not be enough as Delaware rallied for a 25-15 lead.
Inside the Numbers
Freshman Kate Van Houten had a career-high nine assists on the evening, and her first career kill. Kate Dedrick hit .300 in the match with a team-high eight kills. Dedrick, Lauren Merrill, and Kaitlyn Ferguson all shined on defense with three blocks.
Notes
Autumn Brenner passed the 2,500 career assist mark in the second set. The senior sits at 2,503 with two matches to play.
