WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary football team played No. 20/21 Towson even in second half but was unable to overcome a three-touchdown halftime deficit, as its winning streak was snapped by the Tigers, 31-10, on Senior Day at Zable Stadium.
Although Towson (7-4, 4-3) opened the game with a touchdown on its first possession, W&M (4-7, 2-5) responded with a 27-yard field goal by
Kris Hooper on its ensuing drive.
However, the Tigers built a 24-3 lead by halftime before the teams traded a pair of touchdowns during the second half. W&M's score came early in the fourth quarter when
Tyler Crist scooped up a fumble caused by
Trey Watkins and raced 15 yards into the end zone.
Tribe Standouts
Kane Everson led the Tribe offensively with six catches for 109 yards, while
Zach Burdick posted two receptions for 53 yards and completed a 62-yard strike to Everson that set up W&M's field goal.
Isaiah Laster totaled a career-high 13 tackles, while
Corey Parker recorded 11 stops with a PBU.
In addition to his forced fumble, Watkins' stat line included nine tackles and a sack.
Isaiah Jones added six tackles, 1.5 TFL and a forced fumble.
Inside the Numbers
Although Towson held a narrow edge in passing yards (191-189), the Tigers owned a 237-87 advantage on the ground and controlled the time of possession, 39:18-20:42.
TU scored on all five of its trips into the red zone, including four touchdowns, while W&M scored on one of its three opportunities inside the Tigers' 20-yard line.
Both teams committed two turnovers apiece, but Towson was 8 of 14 on third and fourth down situations, while W&M was 4 of 14 in those situations.
The Opposition
Tom Flacco completed 20 of 29 passes for 191 yards with two touchdowns, while Shane Leatherbury posted five catches for 49 yards with two scores.
Yeedee Thaenrat rushed for 158 yards on 24 carries with a touchdown, while Adrian Feliz-Plat also found the end zone and rushed for 51 yards on 14 carries.
Defensively, Robert Heyward totaled a team-high nine tackles with a sack and 2.5 TFL.

W&M's seniors were honored prior to the contest, as 27 Tribe student-athletes suited up for the final time at Zable Stadium … Despite the loss, W&M leads the all-time series against Towson, 9-7 … The game marked the 12th time in the 16 all-time meetings between W&M and TU that the contest has been deiced by a double-digit margin.
