ELON, N.C. – The William & Mary women's soccer team scored two goals in the final six minutes of regulation to force overtime, but Elon's Jessica Carrieri 101st minute golden goal thwarted a furious comeback attempt by the Tribe. Carrieri's marker lifted the home team to a 3-2 double-overtime win.
Following a scoreless first half, Elon (7-3-1, 2-1 CAA) wasted little time to score the match's opening goal in the 47th minute. After nearly scoring, the Phoenix set up a corner kick that Beky Myers sent it. The ball found the foot of Kayla Hodges, who lifted Elon to a 1-0 cushion.
The Phoenix doubled its lead on a counter-attack in the 61st minute. Bethany Harford drew the defense in just outside of the 18-yard-box, before slotting a perfect pass to Taylor Paradoski, who was in the middle of the 18. Paradoski lofted her shot into the top of the net for Elon's second goal.
W&M (3-7-2, 1-1-1 CAA) finally broke through in the 84th minute. Sophomore
Renee Kohler found junior
Collen Norton, who was open in the box. Norton planted her shot into the back of the net to draw the Tribe back within one.
Just 81 seconds later the Tribe found the equalizer. Kohler fired a shot off the crossbar, but the rebound bounced right back to her. Kohler fed Segan, who was in the middle of the 18 and then rocketed her shot into the top of the net to level the score.
Elon won the match with a goal 15 seconds into the second overtime. Carson Jones sent Jessica Carrieri free into a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Carrieri fired her shot into the top right of the goal to send Elon to the victory.

Quotable
"We had lots of momentum heading into overtime and the game-winning goal evaded us by inches when
Courtney Miles hit the cross bar on a fantastic shot. Elon caught us off guard in the second overtime when they intercepted a pass from our kickoff and found an open runner in the box. It was a heartbreaking game to lose, but it was the first time all season we were able to battle back from a deficit, and something to build on for sure." -
Head coach Julie Shackford
