Colleen Norton's Golden Goal Lifts Women's Soccer to Overtime Victory at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior Colleen Norton scored the golden goal in the 95th minute to lead the William & Mary women's soccer to a 2-1 victory over Colonial Athletic Association foe Drexel on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia.

After withstanding an early rush in overtime, the Tribe (4-10-2, 2-4-1 CAA) retook possession and snapped its skid with a 95th minute marker. Redshirt senior Sarah Segan played junior Colleen Norton into a one-on-one with the Drexel goalkeeper. Norton lofted a shot over the keeper into back of the net.

W&M leveled the score in the 61st minute. Junior Courtney Miles forced a Drexel miscue, and started the play by sending Segan free. From the left side of the 18, Segan rocketed her shot into the back of the net for the equalizer.

Drexel (5-8-3, 1-5-1 CAA) took an early lead on the match's first shot. Melissa Lyon was open inside the 18-yard-box on the left side. Lyon crossed her shot inside of the right post to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead.

Quotable
"We've faced a lot of adversity and with our 11th game on the road, today was no different. We put ourselves in an early hole but we dug out with some really good performances all over the field. We played very well in the second half and had some point blank chances. But we like to make it challenging, and I am very proud of how we competed the whole way through. Colleen scored a great goal coming from the weak side, after great passes from Page and Segan, she placed it beautifully with a lot of composure. Great team effort. - Head coach Julie Shackford
