Men's Soccer Win Streak Snapped in Setback to Old Dominion

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to in-state foe Old Dominion on Saturday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.

Old Dominion (3-7-1) took advantage of a Tribe miscue to get on the board in the seventh minute. With Monarchs pushing forward, junior Sam Golan tried to head the ball back to his keeper, but the two weren't on the same page, and the ball ended up in the back of the net for an own goal.

Despite the own goal, the Tribe (4-5-2) thoroughly dominated the opening half, outshooting ODU, 7-0. The Tribe appeared to have the equalizer in the 15th minute off a free kick, but senior Reeves Trott was whistled offsides after hammering home a shot from inside the six.

Freshman Alexander Levengood nearly chipped the goalkeeper from midfield in the 22nd minute, but the attempt hit off the crossbar. Redshirt freshman Campbell Brickhouse missed a golden chance from eight yards out in the 39th minute as his shot to an open net after pulling out the GK went high of the frame.

The Green and Gold had a handfull of quality chances in the second half but could not push through the Monarch defense. Five minutes into the period, freshman Diba Nwegbo's chance on the right side of the penalty area was stopped by ODU goalkeeper Djibril Doumbia.

Levengood had a chance from the 12 yards out in the 79th minute, but it went just wide of the left post. In the 86th minute, sophomore John Eberle had a free header off an Alfredo Bozalongo free kick, but the opportunity went just over the crossbar.
