Early Goal The Difference as UNCW Tops Tribe Women's Soccer

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW scored in the fourth minute and made it standup as it topped the William & Mary women's soccer team 1-0 on Thursday night in Wilmington, N.C.

UNCW (8-4, 4-1 CAA) took an early lead as it got on the board with its first shot of the night. Dominique Martinez sent a feed to Emily Moxley, who was able to slot her shot into the back of the net.

W&M (3-9-1, 1-3-1 CAA) never gave up and had a pair of chances for the equalizer. Both shots came off of the foot of redshirt senior Sarah Segan in the 40th and the 82nd minute, but they were both stopped by the Seahawks' Sydney Schneider.

- Redshirt senior Sarah Segan fired a team-high two shots, both of which were on frame.

Quotable
"Yet again we ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard in a tough CAA contest that could have gone either way. We conceded a very early goal, which provided UNCW a lot of momentum for the first 15 minutes, but credit to our team for battling as hard as they did to regain control and possession for most of the second half. Qualifying for playoffs always comes down to the second half of the season, and we will have to find away to finish our chances and earn wins in these close games." - Head Coach Julie Shackford

What's Ahead
W&M plays the middle game of its three-game road trip as it travels to Boston on Sunday, Oct. 13. Kickoff between the Tribe and Northeastern is set for Noon.
