WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Jan. 29, 2019) – After posting a tremendous performance in the William & Mary men's gymnastics team's home opener against Navy, senior David Watkins was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Specialist of the Week.
 
Watkins earned the league's specialist of the week honor for the second time of his career after winning the rings title versus Navy on Saturday with a 14.1. The impressive effort marked the second consecutive week in which he claimed the rings title, as he posted the top score in the event at the Navy Open on Jan. 19.
 
Selected as the 2018 ECAC Most Improved Gymnast of the Year, Watkins has continued his upward trajectory this season and currently ranks third nationally on rings 14.188.
 
Watkins' best performance this season came at the season-opening West Point Open where he earned a career-high 14.5, which ranks third in W&M's record book.
 
W&M will return to action when it competes at the State Open hosted by Williamsburg Gymnastics Saturday at 7 p.m.
