WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's soccer team battled until the end, but could not overcome a two-goal first half deficit and fell 3-1 to UNCW on Thursday night at Albert-Daly Field. With the decision the Tribe falls to 4-7, 1-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Seahawks improve to 7-2, 1-1 in league action.
UNCW jumped on the board first with a goal in the eighth minute. Molly McGarry sent a corner kick into the box where it caught a deflection by Marissa Vincent and the ball snuck inside the right post to give the visitors the early lead.
The Seahawks doubled their lead in the 23rd minute off of a counter attack. Bailey Edwards set Grace Bondurant free on a long run. From 20-yards out, Bondruant uncorked a shot into the upper right corner of the net to double the lead.
W&M brought it within one in the 49th minute. Senior
Mackenzie Kober, who was on the right wing, played a perfect ball into the middle of the penalty area. Redshirt junior
Sarah Segan got to the ball and placed her shot in the dead-center of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
However, UNCW iced the game with its third goal in the 80th minute. Audrey Harding sent a cross from the right side to the left post where Dominique Martinez deflected the pass into the back of the net.
