BLACKSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary volleyball team concluded the Hokie Invitational with its second win in a row after dispatching Campbell, 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 25-16), on Saturday afternoon.
The Tribe (2-4) saw another player establish a career best after sophomore
Julia Brown blasted 18 kills on the 10
th-highest attack percentage (.630) in school history to lead W&M past the Camels (2-5).
The Tribe swung the ball very well to start the first set after producing seven of its first 10 points via kills, three of which were from rookie
Claire Farrell. Classmate
Madeleine Bertz brought down the hammer to grant W&M a five-point margin, 15-10, at the mid-point. CU closed the gap to 22-20, but Farrell rung home another kill and Bertz assisted on a pair of blocks to secure the opening period.
The score was deadlocked at 14-all in the second game, before W&M cranked out four straight points for an 18-14 advantage. The Camels narrowed the margin to 18-16 out of a timeout, but the Tribe defense surrendered just one more point in taking a 2-0 match lead.
However, the Camels put together a strong effort in the third set to avoid a sweep. CU stepped up its offense with a .317 attack rate during the frame, collecting 16 of its 25 points on kills and committing just three errors.
Regardless, W&M dominated the fourth set as Brown led the way with six kills in the stanza. Back-to-back kills from Farrell and Brown followed by a CU error lifted the Green and Gold to a 11-5 advantage. Brown went on to score the next four points for the Tribe behind her powerful swing to put the set virtually out of reach at 16-9.

Quotable
"I'm really proud of the team I saw play today. They delivered on effort and attitude the entire match.
Julia Brown had a monster game and carried our offense. The back-row's performance in serve receive was tremendous and kept giving our setters ideal situations to work with, and Kemp and Brenner ran it from there. We talked before the match about writing our own story for the weekend and did it - very happy with our commitment to growth and competitiveness." – head coach
Tim Doyle
