WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Redshirt junior
Sarah Segan scored a pair of second half goals to lift the William & Mary women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. With the win, the Tribe improves to 1-3-0, while the Chanticleers fall to 1-2-1.
After controlling a majority of the possession in the first half, and early stages of the second half, W&M jumped to the lead thanks to a penalty kick in the 54th minute. Segan beat her defender near the end line on the left side of the 18-yard box, and was tripped from behind to earn the PK. The redshirt junior step to the spot and slotted her attempt into the back of the net.
Nearly seven minutes later, Segan struck again. Sophomore
Colleen Norton headed a ball perfectly to the foot of classmate
Erin Dailey, who set Segan free. In a one-versus-one with the goalkeeper, Segan uncorked a low shot into the left corner of the net. Her second goal of the game and season made it 2-0 W&M.
The Tribe defense along with junior
Katelyn Briguglio were able to make the goals standup. Birguglio notched her first clean sheet, making four saves in the victory.
