PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 20, 2018)—The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at Drexel, 14-9, on Friday evening.
Although the score was knotted at 3-3 more than 20 minutes into the contest, Drexel (4-10, 1-3) utilized a 7-2 run, which included a stretch of four unanswered goals, to pull ahead by a comfortable margin early in the second half.
While back-to-back goals by
Maddie Torgerson and
Abby Corkum narrowed the margin to 10-7 with 18:19 remaining, the Dragons responded with a 3-0 run to build a six-goal lead en route to securing the conference victory.
Tribe Standouts
McKinley Wade led the Tribe offensively with three points (2g, 1a), while
Maddie Torgerson also scored twice.
Cameron MacDonald and
Anne Milwicz both posted six draw controls apiece, while
Meredith Hughes added two caused turnovers.
Goalie
Elsa Rall recorded 13 saves.
Inside the Numbers
Although Drexel outshot W&M, 34-28, the Tribe owned a 16-14 advantage in the second half.
Led by MacDonald and Milwicz's combined 12 draw controls, the Tribe dominated the draw circle, 17-8.
However, Drexel owned a 19-11 margin in ground balls and committed five fewer turnovers (16-21).
Seven players combined to score W&M's nine goals.
The Opposition
Courtney Dietzel led Drexel with six goals, while Lucy Schneidereith added three scores.
Goalie Zoe Bennett posted 12 saves and a .571 save percentage.

MacDonald and Milwicz's six draw controls ranks tied for the 13th-best performance in school history … The impressive effort represented a career high for Milwicz … MacDonald has totaled 15 draw controls the last two games, as she tallied nine versus No. 8 Towson last Sunday … Despite the loss, W&M still leads the all-time series against Drexel, 12-7.
