WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 15, 2018)—The William & Mary lacrosse team fell to No. 8 Towson, 17-5, on Senior Day at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Sunday afternoon.
Although the score was knotted at 1-1 nearly 10 minutes into the contest, TU (12-2, 4-0) closed the opening half with a 10-1 run.
While W&M (4-10, 0-3) recorded the opening goal of the second half, Towson outscored the Tribe 6-2 during the remainder of the game to secure the conference victory.
Tribe Standouts
Cameron MacDonald highlighted the Tribe's individual performances with a career-high nine draw controls – an impressive figure that ranks tied for the second-best performance in school history.
Meredith Hughes led W&M offensively with two goals, while
Abby Corkum,
Emma MacLeod and
Beth Kuyk also found the back of the cage.
Defensively, Kuyk and
Lindsay Koch both registered a pair of caused turnovers.
Inside the Numbers
Towson outshot W&M, 29-20, and held advantages in ground balls (16-10) and draw controls (12-11).
Additionally, the Tigers committed four fewer turnovers (12-16).
W&M held Towson to just two goals in the final 19:31.
The Opposition
Natalie Sulmonte led Towson with four goals, while Carly Tellekamp added three scores. Kaitlyn Montalbano, Kaitlin Thornton and Gabby Cha added two goals apiece.
Olivia Conti posted a team-high five draw controls.
Starting goalie Kiley Keating posted seven saves and allowed just three goals in 40:28.
