WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 13, 2018)—The William & Mary lacrosse team fell to No. 4 James Madison, 21-4, on Friday evening at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.
The score was knotted at 2-2 nearly 13 minutes into the contest before JMU (12-1, 3-0) closed the opening half with a 9-1 run.
The Dukes then outscored the Tribe (4-9, 0-2) in the second half, 10-1, to pull away for the conference victory.
Tribe Standouts
Meredith Hughes led the Tribe with two goals, while
Abby Corkum and
Annelise Kotz also found the back of the cage.
Hughes and
Cameron MacDonald also came up big on the draw with four draw controls apiece.
McDonald, Kotz and
Emma MacLeod led W&M defensively with two caused turnovers apiece.
Goalie
Elsa Rall posted a game-high 10 saves.
Inside the Numbers
JMU outshot the Tribe, 38-13, which included a 17-3 margin in the second half.
The Dukes also held advantages in ground balls (21-11) and draw controls (15-12), while committing 10 fewer turnovers (9-19).
The Opposition
Elena Romesburg led JMU with four goals, while Hanna Haven (3g, 1), Kristen Gaudian (3g, 1a) and Halle Duenkel (3g, 1a) all recorded four points apiece.
Gaudian and Haley Warden both totaled three draw controls, while Warden also registered a game-high four ground balls.
