Tribe Baseball Downed by James Madison in Series Opener

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The William & Mary baseball team was downed by Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison, 15-3, in the series opener on Friday evening. The Dukes' (17-16, 3-7) offense overwhelmed the Tribe (14-21, 3-7)  with 18 hits in earning the win.

It didn't take long for the Dukes to heat up the bats with four runs in the opening frame. JMU doubled three times and singled twice to gain early momentum during the first inning. A solo shot tacked on another run in the second, before the Dukes hit two more RBI singles in the bottom of the third to build a 7-0 advantage.

The Tribe put up a run each in the fifth and sixth, but JMU kept rolling for the big win. Junior Jason Waldman factored in on the both Tribe runs . After leading off the fifth with a walk, he moved 90 feet from home on a wild pitch and Nick Butts single, before scoring on a double play. In the sixth inning, Waldman crushed a two-out RBI double off the wall for W&M second run.

Nonetheless, the Dukes' big day continued with eight runs in the last three innings, closing the door on any chance of a Tribe comeback.

Tribe Standouts
Senior Ryan Hall and sophomore Patrick Ryan both put together a solid effort at the dish after collecting three hits. Waldman walked twice to go along with his RBI double. Sophomore Matthew Trehub recorded a RBI double in the top of the ninth.

Notes
