Tribe Lax Concludes Non-Conference Slate with Setback vs. UC Davis

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 31, 2018)—The William & Mary lacrosse team concluded its non-conference slate with a 12-4 setback against UC Davis at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
Although W&M (4-7) held the Aggies scoreless for the final 18:18 and outscored them in the second half, 3-2, it was unable to overcome a nine-goal deficit at halftime.
 
The loss was W&M's first at home this season, as it entered the contest with a 4-0 mark in Williamsburg.
 
Tribe Standouts
Abby Corkum, Emma MacLeod, Sophie Kopec and Annalise Lower all recorded goals for the Tribe, while MacLeod and Anne Milwicz added three draw controls apiece.
 
Defensively, Hannah Ryan totaled two caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Anne McElgunn and Beth Kuyk posted two caused turnovers and two ground balls apiece.
 
In addition to allowing just two goals in the second half, Claire Duchene came off the bench to register seven saves and a .538 save percentage in the final 39:15.  
 
Inside the Numbers
Although W&M held an 11-7 advantage in draw controls, including a 5-1 mark in the second half, UC Davis outshot the Tribe, 32-24, and owned a 23-18 edge in ground balls.
 
Both teams committed just 13 turnovers, which represents a season-best for the Green & Gold.
 
The Opposition
Taylor Cuenin led UC Davis with five goals, while Sorana Larson added three scores.
 
Goalie Grace Richards posted a game-high 11 saves and allowed just three goals in 41:41 minutes of action.   
 
Notes
The contest marked the first ever meeting between W&M and UC Davis … The setback was W&M's first at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field this season as it won its first four games in Williamsburg … MacLeod and Lower's goals were both their first of the season.

The Tribe will begin conference play when it hosts Hofstra at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field next Sunday at 1 p.m.
