WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 2, 2018) – The William & Mary men's gymnastics team posted the top team score in two events and three Tribe standouts claimed individual titles, but the squad fell to No. 9 Navy, 390.85-383.45, in its home opener at Kaplan Arena on Friday evening.
Highlighting the Tribe's individual performances were
Juan Palma (floor),
Collin Lillie (vault) and
Nate Winneg (all-around), who all earned titles.
Additionally, W&M recorded the top team scores on rings (66.85) and vault (68.55).
Event Recaps
Floor, 65.7 –
Juan Palma's winning score of 13.8 led the Tribe on floor, while
Tomas Palma also came up big and tied for second with a 13.7.
Pommel Horse, 59.05 –
Griffin Antle posted W&M's top mark on pommel horse with a 12.65, while
Cutter Fugett earned a career-high 12.15.
Rings, 66.85 – W&M tallied the top team score on rings, as
David Watkins and
Peter Makey led the way by tying for second with a pair of 13.65's, which represented a season-high for Makey.
Vault, 68.55 – The Tribe also posted the top team score on vault, as Lillie (14.1) won the event in his collegiate debut while
Juan Palma (13.95) placed second. Lillie's impressive score ranks tied for 10th in W&M's record book.
Parallel Bars, 61.7 – Antle was the Green & Gold's top scorer on parallel bars and placed second with a 13.1.
High Bar, 61.6 –
Mitchell Campbell recorded the Tribe's top mark on high bar and earned a season-high 12.95.
All-Around – Winneg claimed the all-around title with a 74.15, while
Jack Hasenkopf placed second with a 73.8.

The Tribe will return to action when it hosts Army for Senior Day next Saturday at 3 p.m. The meet will be a double dual, as the W&M women's team will host Towson.
