Senior Abby Rendle Scores Her 1,000th Career Point, but Women's Basketball's Comeback Bid Falls Short at Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – Senior Abby Rendle became the 19th player in school history to score her 1,000th career point, and paced the Tribe with 18 points, but the William & Mary women's basketball team's furious fourth quarter comeback fell short at Delaware, 68-59. With the decision the Green and Gold falls to 15-8, 6-6 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Blue Hens improve to 14-8, 7-4 in league action.

Down by six to open the fourth quarter, W&M scored eight of the period's first 10 points to tie the score. Junior Bianca Boggs and Rendle each had lay-ups to cut the lead to two, but Delaware responded with a basket. The Tribe answered with back-to-back baskets from sophomores Victoria Reynolds and Nari Garner to tie the score at 53-53, and then again at 55-55.

The Blue Hens answered with an 8-0 run to reestablish the lead and were able to hang on for the victory. Bailey Kargo hit a 3-pointer to regain the lead, before Samone DeFreese scored five points in a row to make it 63-55 with 4:02 left.

Trailing by seven, W&M used a 6-0 run to cut Delaware's lead to one midway through the second quarter. Four straight points from Rendle sparked the run, before Reynolds swished two from the line to make it 23-22 with 5:06 left in the quarter.

However, the Blue Hens responded by scoring 11 of the final 14 points in the half to take a nine-point lead into the break. Rebecca Lawrence sandwiched a pair of jumpers around a Nicole Enabosi free throw, but Garner cut the lead back in half with a triple. However, the Blue Hens closed the quarter on a 6-0 run, starting with a pair of free throws from Kiersten West, a Lawrence jumper, and a Lizzie Oleary lay-up.
