SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Feb. 4, 2018) – The William & Mary men's gymnastics team posted its best performance of the season en route to defeating Springfield, 398.2-391.05, on Sunday afternoon.
In addition to recording a season-high team total, W&M posted its best scores of the year in three events and bettered Springfield in all but one of the six events.
Highlighting the Tribe's individual performances was a quartet of standouts who claimed individual event titles –
Tomas Palma (floor, 14.15),
Griffin Antle (pommel horse, 13.8),
Jeremiah McReynolds (rings, 14.2) and
David Allen (high bar, 13.6). McReynolds' impressive score on rings tied for fourth in the program's record book.
Event Recaps
Floor, 66.25 – W&M edged Springfield in the event, as Palma (14.15) and
Tim O'Neill (13.9) claimed the top two spots.
Pommel Horse, 66.25 – Tribe gymnasts earned the top four individual scores en route to helping the squad post a season high in the event. Antle (13.8) and
Jacopo Gliozzi (13.5) both registered season bests to claim the top two spots, while
Spencer Schrandt (13.3) and
Nate Winneg (13.15) placed third and fourth, respectively, with career highs.
Rings, 67.9 – Led by McReynolds (14.2) and
David Watkins (14.0) who claimed the top two spots with career highs, W&M won the event with its best team total of the season. McReynolds' impressive score ranks tied for fourth in school history, while Watkins' effort ties for seventh.
Vault, 67.8 –
Jack Hasenkopf (13.8) and O'Neill (13.75) placed second and third, respectively, to help W&M win the event.
Parallel Bars, 66.5 – The Tribe won parallel bars with a season-high score, as
Mitchell Campbell led the way by placing second with a season-best 13.7. McReynolds and Antle also came up big by tying for third with a pair of season-high 13.5's.
High Bar, 63.5 – Although high bar was the lone event in which W&M did not win, it got impressive performances from Allen, who claimed the individual title with a 13.6, and McReynolds, who finished third with a 13.2.
All-Around – Hasenkopf was the Tribe's lone all-arounder and posted a season-high 76.35.
