Bianca Boggs' Double-Double Leads Women's Basketball to Wire-to-Wire Win Over Defending A-10 Champ George Washington

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –Senior Bianca Boggs notched her fourth career double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds as the William & Mary women's basketball team picked up a 73-59 wire-to-wire victory over defending Atlantic 10 Champion George Washington. With the win, the Tribe closes non-conference play with a 7-4 mark, while the Colonials fall to 2-10.
 
Despite a sluggish start in the opening period, the Tribe caught fire in the second quarter to take a 34-24 lead at halftime. W&M jumped out to an 18-9 advantage after starting the frame with a 6-0 run. With four minutes left in the first half, the Tribe expanded its lead to double-digits following a spark of eight-straight points.
 
Junior Victoria Reynolds found senior Bianca Boggs wide open for a triple. Reynolds then beat the shot clock with a miraculous 3-pointer a few possessions later. Boggs punctuated the run with a pair of free throws. However, the Colonials trimmed it to 10-point difference behind a 10-2 spurt in the last 2:40 of the period.
 
Freshman Eva Hodgson and redshirt sophomore Harper Birdsong shined in the third quarter to build up a 20-point margin. Hodgson scored six straight points in a 24-second span to push it to a 54-35 affair at the 3:10 mark. Birdsong then generated the last eight points for the Tribe to hold a 62-42 lead at the end of the stanza.
 
The Colonials managed to cut it to a 14-point game, 53-67, with 4:24 remaining in regulation. Nonetheless, freshman Emma Krause and Birdsong knocked down a 3-pointer apiece to extinguish any GW comeback.

Individual Highlights
Senior Bianca Boggs put together the best game of her season has she had a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while adding three assists, two steals, and three blocks. She was one of three players in double-figures as redshirt sophomore Harper Birdsong scored 16 points and added two rebounds, and three steals against her former team. Freshman Eva Hodgson had 11 points, four rebounds, and a career-high six assists.
 
Olivia Gumbs had a team-high 13 points, two rebounds, and two steals off of the bench for the Colonials. Both Kelsi Mahoney and Mei-Lyn Bautista each had 11 points. Mahoney added five rebounds, three assists, and one block, while Bautista had five rebounds and one assist.
 
Inside the Numbers
- W&M led by as many as 24-points and never trailed in the victory.
 
- W&M shot 45-percent (27-for-60) from the field, while hit a season-high 12 3-pointers and shot 48-percent from range.
 
- George Washington held a 36-33 advantage in rebounding.
 
- The Tribe took care of the basketball only turning the ball over 11 times in the game, compared to 17 assists.

Senior Misha Jones made her first career start … Classmate Bianca Boggs was in double-figures for the ninth time this season, and the 51st time in her career … It was the senior's 10th career 20-point contest … She added 10 rebounds for her fifth-career double-digit rebounding game, and her fourth-career double-double … Redshirt sophomore Harper Birdsong was in double-figures for the fifth straight game and the eighth time in her career … Freshman Eva Hodgson was in double-figures for the fourth game this season … She also set a new career-high six assists.
 
What's Ahead
The Tribe opens Colonial Athletic Association play with the two-game conference Northern swing. League action gets under way as the Tribe takes on Hofstra on Friday, Jan. 4, before taking on Northeastern on Sunday, Jan. 6. Tip times are set for 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
