Volleyball Falls in Three Sets at Towson

TOWSON, Md. – The William & Mary volleyball team fell to Towson, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-13), in its final road match of 2018 on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers (14-14, 8-6 CAA) finished the contest with an impressive .329 hitting percentage to upend the Tribe (5-18, 1-13 CAA).

W&M was unable to slow down the Tigers' offense in the first and third sets. Towson hit above .440 and committed no more than two errors to take the first and third periods.

The Green and Gold had its best chance in the second set. The Tribe trailed by as many as seven points, before closing the gap late in the frame. Sophomore Julia Brown's third kill and a Towson error narrowed the margin to 23-20. Regardless, a kill each from Towson's Emily Jarome and Jocelyn Kuilan prevented W&M from claiming the set.

- Senior Katie Kemp paced all players with 18 assists.
- Sophomore Lauren Moussaid recorded 10 digs.
- The Tigers served well finishing with a 7-3 advantage in aces.

Merrill scored double-digit points (11) for the sixth time in her 14 appearances … Merrill also collected two aces on the third occasion this season … Brown is on a streak of five-consecutive matches with at least three blocks … Brown improved to eighth in career blocks (168) in the current scoring format at W&M.

Quotable
"There was energy to be taken and momentum we could have gotten on our side today, especially early, but we weren't able to capitalize. I need to do a better job preparing the girls to play and positioning them to score and win. Towson's block and defense shut down our main point scorers and made life difficult for us. Learning to play to the level of a championship team is a slow evolution, and I'll go back to the drawing board to see what we need to do to close out the season with two wins." - head coach Tim Doyle

Up Next
The Tribe will close out the 2018 season with a pair of home matches against Charleston (Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.) and UNCW (Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.) next weekend. W&M will also recognize its seniors with a pre-match ceremony before facing the Seahawks on Sunday.
