Women’s Basketball Outlasted at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The William & Mary women's basketball team battled back and forth at Davidson, but was outlasted, 76-65, on Saturday evening. The Wildcats (3-3) pulled away from the Tribe (2-2) with an 11-2 run in the final two minutes.
 
After trailing by as many as nine points in the first quarter, the Tribe narrowed the gap to 33-31 at halftime. W&M scored nine unanswered points to grab a one-point lead with 5:49 remaining in the second period.
 
Senior Bianca Boggs scored the first seven points, before sophomore Gabby Rogers knocked down a mid-range jumper. Boggs tied it behind a 3-pointer at the 1:15 mark, but Davidson's Justine Lyon made a pair of free throws to reclaim the advantage heading into intermission.
 
Both teams exchanged blows in the third quarter as the difference wouldn't exceed four points. In the opening minutes of the fourth period, Rogers made back-to-back buckets to lift W&M to a 52-51 edge. The Wildcats regained the lead, but Boggs made a pair of free throws for just a 65-63 deficit with 2:09 remaining. Davidson then responded with its late run to hold on for the victory.

Individual Highlights
Boggs registered her first double-double of the season via game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds, while adding seven assists. Junior Victoria Reynolds tallied 13 points, three rebounds and two assists despite playing in foul trouble. Rogers and redshirt sophomore Harper Birdsong added 10 points apiece. Justine Lyon paced the Wildcats with 17 points. Sarah Donovan posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. Kianna Speight and Ally Welling finished with 14 points each.
 
Inside the Numbers
- Both teams were even in shooting percentage as W&M shot 46.3 percent, while Davidson held a 45.2 rate.
- The Wildcats owned a 37-28 advantage in rebounds.
- Davidson put up 16 second chance points and the Tribe finished with four.
- The Green and Gold committed 20 turnovers compared to 13 from the Wildcats.
