The William & Mary women's basketball team used hot shooting throughout, but especially early, to pull away from Loyola (Md.) on Saturday afternoon en route to a 65-49 win in the first road game of the season. With the win, the Tribe improves to 2-1 overall, while the Greyhounds fall to 0-4 to start the year.
How it Happened
- Senior
Bianca Boggs (Waldorf, Md.) canned her first shot of the night, a triple from the wing just 33 seconds in, and the Tribe never let the Greyhounds back into it from there.
- The first quarter saw W&M jump out to a 16-9 advantage, thanks to hard work in the paint from
Victoria Reynolds (Fairfax, Va.) and company, as well as a tough defense that forced three turnovers and scored six points off of them.
- Boggs took over in the second quarter, scoring nine points in that frame alone, in addition to a driving and-one sequence from freshman
Eva Hodgson (Rindge, N.H.).
- The third quarter was a battle, 13-13 between the two teams as Loyola tried to slow down the Tribe offense. Despite some tough contested looks, however, Hodgson kept the ball moving with four assists, and
Gabby Rogers (Dallas, Texas) went 3-3 from the floor with two rebounds while
Nyla Pollard (Virginia Beach, Va.) hit both a three and a jumper for five more points.
- Freshman
Emma Krause (Plantation, Fla.) was also instrumental in keeping W&M in the lead in the third quarter, picking up three rebounds including two on the offensive end to extend possessions for the Tribe.
- Sophomore
Harper Birdsong (Suffolk, Va.) got the Tribe going in the fourth quarter with two triples early, and W&M began finding its way to the line with regularity as fouls began piling up on the Greyhounds.
- In that fourth quarter, both Reynolds and Boggs converted two free throws, with Reynolds also adding a layup and a pair of assists. Senior
Misha Jones (Manassas Park, Va.) and Krause both added two rebounds and an assist apiece.
